US Senators Upset about Haiti's New Army Leadership, Le Haut-Etat Major des Forces Armées d'Haïti

Haiti has a new army but its leadership, Le Haut-Etat Major des Forces Armées d'Haïti, is from the old school... Some United States Senators are not very happy about this, according to a Miami Herald article...

Journalist Jacqueline Charles reports in the article that "All six former soldiers to head the high command of the recently reinstated Armed Forces of Haiti, or FAD'H, once had their assets frozen by the U.S. as punishment for supporting the military coup that overthrew President Jean-Bertrand Aristide."

Who's upset in the US?

US Senator Patrick Leahy says:

"It is appalling... We should not support an institution led by people with their history. It is an example of what is wrong in Haiti."

U.S. Florida Senator Marco Rubio says:

"I continue to question why, with so many other needs, Haiti would pursue creating an army... Choosing six people sanctioned by the U.S. to lead it only confirms I was right to oppose it."

It is interesting to see how the Dominican Republic which shares the island of Hispanoinla with Haiti has an Armed Forces with 56,780 active personel and Haiti is almost NOT allowed to have an army of its own.

What do you think about that?

As Haitian we need security too, we need to protect our land every nation protect their own land why not us?

If Aristide was a Patriot or a real Haitian he will never asked to put ambargo and destroy the army for a power just to satisfy his greed.

He should never put his feet in that land again.

The US needs to stay out of Haitian politics.

We think that because we help their economy we can control their choices.

Haiti is a proud country that wants to rule itself, make its own mistakes and face the consequences, without interference.
