Statement of the United States on the Final Results of the Second Round of the Elections in Haiti

"We have found no explanation for the reversals of 18 legislative races in the final results, which in all except two cases benefited the incumbent [INITE] party," The United States says in a statement release by the US Embassy of Haiti on 22 April 2011.

Here is the statement in full, as posted on US Embassy Haiti web site:

The United States shares the concern referenced by the Organization of American States (OAS)/CARICOM Joint Electoral Observation Mission (JEOM) regarding the reports and allegations of fraud surrounding the final results announced by the Conseil Electoral Provisoire (CEP) for the March 20 second-round legislative elections as a result of the contestation process.

After reviewing the results and materials provided by the CEP, United Nations, and international observers, we have found no explanation for the reversals of 18 legislative races in the final results, which in all except two cases benefited the incumbent party. These reversals include, among other changes, a candidate from the incumbent party who placed third in the preliminary results and who now finishes first according to the CEP's final results, with total votes counted in the race increasing by 55,000 votes, from 90,000 in the preliminary results to more than 145,000 votes in the final results; and, two candidates from the incumbent party who placed second in the preliminary results, and for whom the CEP's final results double their preliminary vote totals, including for one candidate whose vote total now exceeds the total number of votes cast in his district for all candidates. [The attached spreadsheet lays out the facts in the reversals that occurred.]

As a partner invited by the Haitian Government to support and participate in the electoral process, the United States calls upon the Government of Haiti and the CEP to provide a thorough, public explanation for the reversals in these 18 races. The United States also calls upon the JEOM to observe the documentation supporting the CEP's final announced results for these 18 races to increase transparency so that the people of Haiti can be assured of their fairness. The Haitian people, who have participated with great patience in the two rounds of elections, deserve nothing less. Without a public explanation and review by the JEOM, the legitimacy of seating these candidates is in question.

Rems,

You are so right on. What has the US government done to Haiti except to invade it 4 times in the 20th century, work with the elite and paramilitary to undermine democracy in Haiti, kidnap your past president Aristide at gunpoint and dump him in the CAR, allow Duvalier to come back to Haiti without any objection and try to persuade South Africa to restrain Aristide to return to his own country! Who needs enemies with friends like this?

This statement is typical of the American government.

On the one hand they state the election is a fraud only because a blind man couldn't see it. Why did they wait so long to make the statement when they knew it all along?

On the other hand, who but them and the Haitian elite, allowed the election to take place without a Lavalas representative.

Instead of simply condemn the fraud president Martelly need to remind the Haitian people that CEP will stand before our justice system for such crime and the author of those acts will go to prison.

A lesson for this new government are you going to be friendly with those Criminals, remember in the past Chimeres cost Aristid his presidential
