Haiti Diplomacy: Half of the employees and contractors in Haiti's embassies and consulates abroad have been fired!
Out of the more than 1,000 employees and contractors in Haiti's embassies and consulates abroad, between 400 and 500 of them were laid off, Foreign Minister Antonio Rodrigue told Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste.
The contract of more than 500 diplomatic contractors, expired on September 30, was not renewed. "We are studying their files to see who can be reappointed," Ministre Rodrigue said.
The Haitian embassies and consulates around the world, with the overloaded employees and contractors costs Haiti a whopping US $ 4,295,000 each month, the Minister of Foreign Affairs had indicated to the chamber of Deputes back in May. "The Minister of Foreign Affairs will be bankrupted if nothing is done to reduce its staff," he said.
