This fake news probably played the role of a signal tracer.

It generates a flurry of crisscrossing telephone calls and internet activities that helped the US investigators to detect who were calling Guy Philippe and to intercept their coordinates and Guy Philippe where about as they did for Pablo Escobar.

Usually, the investigators have database that have all sort of relevant information about the name of family members, friends and significant other and the names of the friends or family members of the first group and subsequent groups to form a relationship tree[ who is calling who under what circumstances etc].Ie, the target is more likely to receive phone call from family members and significant other during their birthday [that how they intercepted a telephonic conversation between Pablo Escobar and his mother and were able to zeroing Mr. Escobar precise coordinates]
