I wonder if Haitians even know of what Aristide went through when he was president.
Do they know that he tried to get the rich elites to pay their taxes--without success?
And this was certainly one motive for the elites to get him out?
Do they know that in return for giving him help, Bill Clinton required that Aristide abide by the economic policies of the IMF, resulting in tariffs being reduced on American rice (which is subsided by the US government), allowing cheap rice to undermine Haitian rice farmers?
And that Haitian productive asets had to be sold to the private sector, resulting in loss of income and jobs?
