Is Martelly Selling Haiti To Foreigners?

VANN PEYI BAY BLAN - In the mind of some Haitians, seeking foreign investors means selling Haiti to foreigners...

It's a bad habit... They all want something for nothing...

Send money... Don't come!

Many Haitians use this term "Vann Peyi Bay Blan" meaning that a Haitian president want to sell Haiti to foreigners but is that the right term to use?

I even heard this term used in the past few days simply because President Michel Martelly is going out there, meeting with potential investors and developers with money and plans to develop tourist attractions in Haiti.

Oh Wi... Martelly vle vann peyi a bay blan...

Tchwipssss... Gen moun ki panse le yo louvri yon depo pepe an Haiti se investi yo ap investi... Tanpri wi mezanmi...

It is true that all Haitians want Haiti to change but sometimes it feels like the only change some of us have in mind is the best things in life within the confines of our own "lakou" with 5 maids, 3 restaveks, and 2 gason lakou to take care of it all for a bowl of cornmeal (Mais Moulin).

Haiti is like Disney World without the rides...

President Martelly says...

"We need to create jobs, and in order to create jobs we need to create security. We need to let [investors] know we're going to change our laws, our investment laws, and let them know we will secure their investments."

Is this what some of us consider "vann peyi a"???

The Republic of Haiti is a piece of Real Estate... The land and everything attached to it IS the real estate...

The reason Haiti is a poor country although she is in a PRIME LOCATION is because there is no Income generating structures selling our commodities, blue skies, sunshine, waves and sand to foreigners who constantly dream of going to paradise.

Every mile of beachfront property in Haiti that is not generating millions of dollars per day is a BAD investment.

The question is...

Who has that kind of money to invest?

Not me! You?

MICHEL MARTELLY is forcing by UNICEF to stop international induvidual adoption.

My president i voted you for change do not let rich people put you in trouble, you only have to help adoption program, to create a better foreig home for the children in adoption, not to be restaveck, slave.

I think we should be smart about this issue view of past experience.

Yes, Martelly should sell land to the highest bidders if he can. He needs money desperately to develop Haiti; But he should protect Haiti with certain clauses pertaining to those sales.

For instance Haiti can decide to sale land to non-Haitians but the ownership is only FOR LIFE. Ownership CANNOT be inherited unless the heirs were born in Haiti with at least one Haitian parent.

In any functionning society education is the main key for development.

Unfortunately the Haitian population is not socio-cultural and politically educated.

There are things they really do not know. This should be our leaders to form the nation howsoever it seems like the do not have any interest in educating them. We all know
