Haiti Culture Minister Choiseul Henriquez Dies In Canada
We received this official Press release from President Martelly's communication office last night regarding his unfortunate death:
The Presidency And The Government Saddened By The Death Of [Choiseul Henriquez] The Minister Of Culture And Communication.
Port-au-Prince, November 12, 2011 - The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly, learned with sadness of the death of Mr. Choiseul Henriquez, Minister of Culture and Communication.
Mr. Henriquez, who suffered for some time to diabetes and hypertension, passed away at the age of 51, Friday, November 11 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital (Canada), following brain hemorrhage.
The Presidency and the government send their sympathies to relatives and friends of Minister Henriquez.
With the early departure of the holder [of the post of Minister of] Culture and Communication, the country has lost a son who was animated with the desire to support the new government in the way of change, a change so desired by the people of the Republic of Haiti.
According to Haiti Radio Kiskeya, Choiseul Henriquez, a native of Gonaives, was a former journalist, Director of Haiti radio 4VEH in Cap-Haitien and later Radio Nationale d'Haiti, and head of the office of communication during the first term of president Rene Preval (1996-2001).
Before being sworn in as Minister of Culture, Choiseul Henriquez was admitted to a hospital in Canape-Vert Haiti and later urgently transfered to another medical facility in Canada.
What a sad way to go... Que la terre lui soit legere...
