Jocelerme Privert - Provisional President of Haiti

Jocelerme Privert, 62, was elected in the second round of voting after a long session with 64 deputes and 13 senators voting in his favor, totaling 77 votes.

The next runner up, Edgard Leblanc Fils received 33 votes and third candidate Dejean Belizaire received 2 votes.

President Jocelerme Privert immediately resigned as Senator of the Republic before swearing in as President of the Republic.

This is the first time since 1946 that a Haitian head of the State is chosen by indirect election.
