12,000 NGOs vs. The Haitian Government

Did you know? There are more NGOs in Haiti than police officers, and most, if not all of them are begging on behalf of the poor Haitian people. And you want change?

Read this...

"Before the earthquake, Haiti had more foreign aid workers than any nation on earth. After the earthquake, 12,000 NGOs operating in Haiti couldn't stop a cholera epidemic from claiming thousands of lives."

12,000 NGOs vs. The Haitian Government

Did you know that these NGOs are also competing with the Haitian Government for foreign aid?

Did you also know that past Haitian governments, including the Preval Administration, complain that they have no control over these NGOs AND the money they collect?

Time Magazine reports...

"One adviser to Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told the Wall Street Journal that the NGO community has "infantilized" the country and usurped responsibilities better left to the Haitian government."

INFANTILIZED... I have not seen that word before but I'm sure it has something to do with an adult crawling like a baby.

QUESTION...

How will the Martelly Administration deal with this?

CAN president Michel Martelly compete or will he be afraid... or worse... Influenced to shut up?

Do you really think 12,000 NGOs are in Haiti to turn Haiti into a developing country? Remember... No poverty no aid $$$

we should not generalize all Haitians as good for nothing welfare recepients Many Haitians are hard working people struggling to survive otherwise where would they get that 2billion to send home each year. yes some Haitians are hustlers and some are lazy but that's in every group.

these vices are notjust the domain of Haitians, look at the guys in wall street who destroy the economy by getting people to invest in all thse bad loans and there are tons of guys like Madoff steals billions inn pyramid schemes, there are crooks in every country, the United States politicians are just more sophisticated with their corruptions.

Haitian has no purity at all.The government is worse but the entire nation is worthless whem its come to the nation integrity.

First of all, haitian people are not law follower period.Only 2 out off hundred haitian that honest and abide by the law. Haitian force themselves to follow the american law, they know once the get cought american will not play with them. If it wasn't for that it would be a catastrophe here in america with haitian, haitian worse than cuban.I'm haitian proud to be but I hate haitian as a result of the way conducting their business in haiti also here. I don't trust haitian in anything not even with a dime, they will do whatever for money:killing, distortion, cheat, impose upon, coax. Haitian need a big turn around in oder for haiti to become a better place.

The fact that foreign donors trust NGOs more than they trust the Haitian government should be a lesson learned for the new administration of President Martelly.

It is a shame that things are the way they are but it is what it is, the Haitian government (past and present) brought this stigma upon itself and the country.

Hopefully, President Martelly will have the support of the Haitian Legislators and Business leaders to reverse that trend.
