Haitian Premier Rules Out Immediate MINUSTAH Pullout

According to Prensa Latina on May 10th 2012,Haitian Premier Laurence Lamothe ruled out an immediate pullout of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) until there is a local military force to replace it. "Once our security forces increase, the number of MINUSTAH troops will gradually fall," he said.

The Haitian Army, made up of some 8,000 men, was dissolved in 1994 by ex President Jean Bertrand Aristide in the wake of involvement in numerous human rights violations and coups.
