Haiti President Jovenel Moise aborts trip to the 74th UN General Assembly due to political tension.

New York: President Jovenel Moise speaking at the 72nd UN General Assembly

Due to the current political crisis in Haiti, President Jovenel Moise has decided not to go to the 74th UN General Assembly where he was supposed to speak Thursday.

The president was getting ready to leave Haiti this Tuesday but an effort to get his prime Minister ratified by the Senate turned into chaos and mayhem.

President Jovenel Moise to leave Haiti and speak at 74th UN General Assembly

New York: President Jovenel Moise speaking at the 72nd UN General Assembly

President Jovenel Moise will address the annual high-level UN General Assembly session on September 27. The Haitian president is leaving the country Sunday ahead of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

The 74th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 74) will open on September 17, 2019. The first day of the high-level General Debate will be September 24, 2019.

We do not know yet if president Jovenel will meet the Haitian Community in the New York Diaspora.

Haitian Journalist Liliane Pierre Paul of Radio Kiskeya openly criticized Haiti President Jovenel moise for taking a picture with US president Donald Trump at the The 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

"It's been less than one year that President Donald Trump called haiti a sh*t hole country, something that President Jovenel Moise and his Prime Minister (Jack Guy Lafontant) never condemmed," Liliane said.

"You know that there are some countries, their president would hesitate before taking another picture with president Donald Trump... politically speaking," the journalist continued.

Haitian president Jovenel Moise in New York for 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly

President Jovenel Moise and President Donald Trump

Haitian president left Haiti Sunday, September 23, and traveled to New York where he will attend the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73).

The General Assembly Thursday but president Jovenel Moise has some important bilateral meeting with various VIPs in the days leading to the assembly.

On Monday, September 24, President Jovenel will speak at Climate Week NYC. Then, he will meet Stefano Manservisi, Director General of International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission. This is the Commission department responsible for EU policy on development and delivering international aid.

PM Laurent Lamothe: Haiti to Hold Delayed Vote by Early Next Year

Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe said Tuesday that his country will hold long-overdue elections no later than early next year if several opposition lawmakers don't stand in the way of the vote before their mandates expire in January.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Lamothe said a group of six senators who have been holding Haiti "hostage" won't be able to do so anymore once their terms end. Still, Lamothe said, he hopes the officials will approve an electoral law before then, a move that could pave the way to organize the vote that is three years late.
