Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen Visits Haiti

At the invitation of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, the President of Taiwan (Republic of China) Tsai Ing-Wen made an official to Haiti on Saturday, July 13, 2019, accompanied by a large delegation.

According to news reports, this visit allowed both presidents to define the best strategies to consolidate Haitian-Taiwanese cooperation. Issues related to energy, the economy, water management and agriculture, among others, were discussed by Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen and the Taiwanese delegation.

This visit follows a visit by President Jovenel Moise to Taiwan back in May 2018.

Haiti maintains diplomatic ties with Taiwan

Haitian newspaper Le Nouveliste said a close adviser to president Jovenel Moise told them that the president went ot Taiwan to discuss the key 7 priorities of his government with the Taiwanese authorities.

Not a bad idea, Mr. President... I mean, China is making a pretty darn good offer these days and, like a famous Haitian dictator once said, "la reconnaissance est une lacheté," if it doesn't convert to continues progress for Haiti. (OK, I added the second part!)

Haiti Energy - President Jovenel visits Taiwan Power Plant

Haitian President Jovenel Moise promises electricity 24 hours a day to the people.

During his 5-day visit to Taiwan, Haitian president Jovenel Moise will visit the Taiwan Power Company, a state-owned electric power industry providing electricity to Taiwan and off-shore islands of the Republic of China.

"You know energy is one of the biggest priorities of President Jovenel," spokeswoman Tamara Orion said.

"Today we want to come up with ways to harvest energy in Haiti from the sun."

The president plans to learn some things from the Taiwanese experts to see how, out of the 800 megawatts of energy that Haiti needs, parts of it can be solar energy, the spokes woman said.

Haiti and Taiwan sign a joint document to further bilateral cooperation in multiple fields

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen and Haiti President Jovenel Moise signed a joint communique Tuesday to further bilateral cooperation in multiple fields to benefit the people of both countries.

The communique sets in writing an agreement to establish a high-level task force that will draft, within 60 days, new terms of collaboration on economic and infrastructure development in Haiti as well as potential ways to attract more Taiwanese investors to the Caribbean country.
