MINUJUSTH will not get involved in Haiti's Dossier PetroCaribe, Mission Chief Helen La Lime said
MINUJUSTH taking over where MINUSTAH left off
Madame La Lime took advantage of the press conference organized on the occasion of the United Nations Day on October 24, 2018 to fix her position of this mission on the PetroCaribe issue which has been making waves for several months, Le Nouvelliste reported.
"Corruption is one of the main obstacles to development and it is also a factor that creates instability," the UN Mission chief said. "For some time now, we have seen a mobilization that aims to persuade the justice system to take action against this gangrene. It seems to us that these requests were heard by the government"
"We, as MINUJUSTH, will continue to implement our mandate, particularly with regard to the strengthening of the judicial system, the work with the national police and the institutionalization of the rule of law, which are key players in the fight against impunity."
We will continue to execute our work, which is defined in our mandate, she continued. "Our activity is limited to that," concluded the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative.
Helen La Lime leaned from the mistakes of her predecessor Susan Page who went too deep into Haiti's political swimming pool.
