Leogane Haiti - Protesters set fire to the Town Hall and attempt to burn down the Police Station

Haitian protesters in the street setting a lot of tires on fire

On Thursday October 17 2019, protesters set fire to the Town Hall (La Mairie) in Leogane Haiti. They also burned down the court house (Tribunal de Paix) and many other institutions in the city, according to news reports.

The protesters also invaded the police station and burned several police vehicles parked in front.

Had it not been for the intervention of the specialized police units they would set the police station on fire.

They also burned down a radio station belonging to a Depute who supports President Jovenel Moise.

Haitian protesters burn down a radio station owned by Depute Majority Leader Jean Wilson Hyppolite

Angry protesters burned down the premises of the Radio Excellence FM, a radio station in Leogane Haiti owned by Depute Jean Wilson Hyppolite, a supporter of President Jovenel Moise and the president of the majority bloc in the lower house of parliament, the Chambre des Depute.

Benjamin Joseph, general manager of the radio station that was at the in the building at the moment when people set it on fire. He had to jumped over a wall to save his life, a local journalist reported. He suffered some injuries.
