"They say only a wall separates them from the embassy and with increased gang shootings there's no way the embassy can be unaware. They want the US embassy to help them."

The gang leaders in Haiti have sponsors, former presidential candidate Eric Jean-Baptiste Friday according to newspaper Le Nouvellste.

The secretary-general of the RDNP, who was shot while he was behind the wheel of his vehicle on October 1st 2018, said he had been the victim of a "premeditated attack".

"The gang leaders claimed responsibility for the attack, and these bandits are sponsored by politicians," the former presidential candidate said.
