DGI Haiti employees on strike for a week, they want 300 percent salary increase

Employees of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) of the on strike for one week. They are asking for a 300 percent salary increase.

This strike started Tuesday according to news reports. Taxpayers were unable to enter the grounds of DGI in Port-au-Prince on that day.

"Our salary is miserable," one protester said, "We cannot live on such a salary."

"We are the ones who collect all the taxpayers money so the government can function and we can't even get 750 gourdes per day as a salary while the Haitian currency is worthless compared to the US dollar," another protester said.
