You may ask yourself WHY would a political party with absolutely NO MONEY chose to go to elections knowing full well how much campaigning costs?

Our best guess is the following:

When you know that 500 million gourdes is up for grabs... Why not try to get a piece of the pie?

Evans Paul explains to Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste that a better option would be to reimburse the political parties after the elections, in the spirit of the electoral decree law. Parties with the highest score would have a percentage that corresponds to their results in the elections, he said.

"It would seem more rational and fair. However, given the difficult economic situation, parties do not have money, that decision would would be a disadvantage," he explained.

Hmmmm...
