What happened to the 500 new Haitian Army soldiers that began basic training back in January 2019?

The Haitian army was looking for a few good men, more than 4,000 registered, 500 were recruited and began basic training to be part of the first promotion of Haitian army soldiers of the Jovenel Moise era. Training of these 500 future young soldiers were supposed to start back in January 2019. That what Haiti Minister of Defense Enol Joseph said at the time.

According to news reports, There were repairs were being made to dormitories that would house these new Haitian army soldiers the at the Gressier military base where they were to receive basic training.

Training of these new soldiers was supposed take between four and five months, the Defense minister said, and they were to be trained by the Mexican military trainers and Haitian trainers, mostly former soldiers and some civilians.

The minister said he has already agreed with the Mexican authorities who would send doctors, agronomists and engineers to the country to help train the first class of soldiers.

The Mexican military trainers were supposed to arrive in Haiti on January 18th 2019.

Some Haitian military personnel would also receive military training in Mexico to strengthen the Haitian Army Corps of Engineering, he added.

Fast forward to August 2023, with all that insecurity in Haiti and talk of the UN sending police from Kenya to Haiti. Where are all these Haitian military men?

Do they exist?
