RE: Haiti Election 2010

It has been too long since the last time we've talked.

Events have occured and have scratched at our lives only to leave us bitter as we now embark on taking on and attack each other. The reference or attention on race is not going to help any one bending on building a nation.

It's a strategy to divide and conquer as it's well known in the circles of the opposition;be it national or foreign. The truth is the Haitian Traditional Elite has shown an utter failure and a lack of will to reform a medieval landownership system; something that is vital to getting the country's crucial population-relocation project going = not my words, but tose of Haitians and Non-Haitians alike who care for the well-being of a people.

Without Oge and Chavannes (two mulattoes), there might not have been any significant revolution.

They were the ones who from the beginning of the Revolution tried to work with the Haitian masses.

People can talk all they want. But the truth will remains always what it is: The truth.

Anything else does not matter.

Hello Kelly,

I dno really believe it is about having a Mulatto or a White Haitian rule. I do not think a person's color will determine how well they lead. Rather I think we have to look at qualifications, ethics, and integrity.

Is the person qualified to lead a country and does the person lead with integrity and is ethical.

Yes, I do believe that Charles Henry Baker is by far the most qualified to lead his people and his country, but not due to his race. I am a light skinned Haitian or should I say caramel in color who comes from a mixed background.

My darkskinned grandmother who is well educated and sensible in her thinking even believes that Charles would be the best leader for the country.

However, unfortunately some of the Haitian people's mentality is that they do not need a white man or mulatto or even light skinned person to lead the country.

This is such an unfortunate case. Perhaps they feel that they will go back to the slavery days. Or perhaps they suppose they the will be treated as low class.

Haven grown up in Europe by Haitian born parents, I have heard and seen many cases where the Mulattos and White Haitian regarded themselves as better than the darker skinned haitian and henced would only mingle with Haitians that looked them in complexion.

On the other hand, I have heard and seen darker Haitians that would feel inferior to the those lighter than them and thus would treat the lighter skinned Haitians with contempt when at the times the lighter skinned Haitian just wanted to be accepted.

So, this is a mindset that must be addressed, coached, and broken.

We really need to work together.

I am tired of seeing some Haitians trying to keep their bloodline pure with just marrying mulattos and not willing to accept one because that person is darker.

And I am tired of seeing the white or lighter skinned Haitians not given a chance or regarded as Haitian because of their complexion.

It is time for us to work together and for each other...

I believe that Charles can bring that change and unity about.

Rie

I wanted to tell you that I have nothing to add, your comment is perfect, I am a true Black Haitian skin that is Charles Henry Baker is the most credible candidate in Haiti, he is a true native Haitian Natal and n did not wet the hands in acts of wrongdoing as MPs, senators, former prime ministers who were living on trash easily, well before January 12, the Haitian people by pretending that there are differences between them, I think that a Haitian is a Haitian, he is Black, White, Yellow or mulatto, these bands of politicians, not political and administrative experience, have a venom that causes this mentality through this people, because they benefit illiteracy of the people to play their games of discrimination in favor of their pockets.

Charles Henry Baker Would be a good alternative for the future of the Republic of Haiti.

hello rie, absolutly agree with u and that is what i was to trying to make readers and writers on site understand, it was not about a mulato r white haitians ruling haiti, it was about some writers needs to stop bashing them out. but i can't write more that than what u've wrote down. 100 percent agree

Thanks for replying Kelly!

I enjoyed reading your comment.

I understand how you feel and am in agreement with you. It appears as if both sides are tired of being bashed.

It is definitely time for us to work together.

Surely, the Jamaicans do not seem to have a problem with this; they are an entirely mixed country yet treat one another the same and do not bash others because of their color when they are mulatto, black, chinese, white or indian.

I really hope the Haitian people would get pass this and look at one's heart and intention.

I agree with you too 100%.

It can be frustrating!
