Police and family members gathered in Springfield Gardens, Queens, where a girl was stabbed on Tuesday.

A mother visiting a Queens apartment was in custody after stabbing her 9-year-old daughter multiple times in the back and head, police said.

The child was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in serious condition after Emergency Medical Service workers treated her at a home on a quiet, tree-lined street in Springfield Gardens, authorities said.

The girl was identified by police at the scene as Briana Davis from Suffolk County.

The mother was taken to the 105th Precint and her name was not immediately released.

The stabbing was reported by a family friend about 10:30 a.m.

A man in the home, George Anthony, intervened and held the mother there until police arrived, police said Tuesday.

Authorities were trying to figure out the motive for the incident.
