Ray,

you seem to genuinely care for Haiti.

May I suggest you also read, "Notes from the Last Testament: The Struggle for Haiti" by
Michael Deibert.

you can find it at amazon.com. The thing about Haiti politic is that it is very complicated due to its proximity to the US and Haitians fierce Nationalist mentality.

I don't think Martelly is a puppet of the USA but I think he like many Haitians have come to the conclusions that you cannot fight against the tide. Haiti at this time is not in a position to follow a leftist ideology, Haiti need a lot of real capital infusion into its economy, Aid mony is illusory, it is given by international government as a means to oppress smaller country, So Haiti will never develop with money given to NGOs. the NGOs don't consider the aid money as Haiti's money, they see it as money they deserve to fund their projects.

so Haiti doesn't have much choice but to play the hand that it was dealt.

Most Haitians are fiecely nationalist and desire for indepence but many of us are also pragmatist, we have to work with the troika (US france and now canada.

it's a delicate balance, yes they seek to run and manipulate any Haitian leader and to some extent drove Aristide to madness.

Aristide made a lot of mistake in his presidency but he was also driven by being cornered by the international troika that detest him and his politics.

Also keep in mind lavalas is a shadow of its former self. why do you think Aristide is so silent these days, Lavalas is broken by preval, preval brought them with high positions in his government where they can steal and since Martelly is the new power man, many are staying away from aristide because they know Aristide absolutely detest martelly and the feeling may be mutual.

Haitians are optimists and most of us don't really care if you left or right as long as you ideas will move Haiti forward.
