Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Year
Vilo Exantus Says...
In the light of what has happened to Haiti recently with the earthquake, I don't think that it is the right time now to hold election. It's just not realistic to do that now. But at the same time, Preval's time will be ended next February and will not be able to continue indefinitely as president. Therefore, I would suggest that, at the end of his mandate, an interim government be installed under the patronage of the United Nations, working towards some kind of stability both in the people's mind and in the Country's infrastructure, giving themsome time to regain their conciousness, before the election could take place.
