Re: Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Yearby witson Alexis, replying to Thomas Valcin on 05-Mar-10 03:28 PMI really agreed with you my friend, it is not a favorable time for haiti to hold a presidential election after this deadly disaster .no no encore une fois non it is yet time for the us haitians think about the type of leaders that we want for our country... thank you (Reply)
Re: Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Yearby vilo Exantus, replying to witson Alexis on 05-Mar-10 09:50 PMIn the light of what has happened to Haiti recently with the earthquake, I don't think that it is the right time now to hold election. It's just not realistic to do that now. But at the same time, Preval's time will be ended next February and will not be able to continue indefinitely as president. Therefore, I would suggest that, at the end of his mandate, an interim government be installed under the patronage of the United Nations, working towards some kind of stability both in the people's mind and in the Country's infrastructure, giving themsome time to regain their conciousness, before the election could take place. Re: Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Yearby Jacques Laine on 3/5While on the surface it appears wrong to hold the scheduled presidential election at this critical time, the earthquake has truly helped the Haitians, front and center to assess the depth of their government's ineptitude. Certainly, the generations of gross neglect that has saddled Haiti and its people by their government cannot be attributed to President Preval and his government alone, for according to some observers he was trying his best with the hand of cards he was dealt. On the other hand, the complete lack of the very basics of preparedness to deal with the slightest of catastrophic events under his administration is nothing but embarrassing and cannot be overlooked. The question of whether or not the presidential election should be held for me is an easy one; it better be held. Indeed, I'll be the first one to acknowledge long term effect of pained based trauma the earthquake has had on populace. Yet, I also believe that the UN and the powerful players now on the ground in Haiti have the wherewithal: technologically and economically, if they want to make that the election a reality. Surely the resilience of the Haitians has been shaken but it has not died. The election could be their one opportunity to express their disappointments, despondency, pain and anger. Let the dice roll and may the chips fall where they may, but the Haitians will survive anything, following the 7.0 monster earthquake. (Reply)

Regardless of the situation, life must go on. We have a constitution, we must follow it then. We are all aware of the tragic incident that just happened in Haiti, however, if we take a look at history whether it is biblical or not, there must be a sacrifice in order to have any change. We had the great flood during Noah's time. Jesus died to bring salvation to the world so on and so forth. God is giving Haiti an excellent opportunity for a new begining; we must get together and make it happen. It does not matter who is the president, as long as we Haitians still have the same mentality of "TOUT KOUKOU KLERE POU JEW" we will always think about what the country can do for us instead of what we can do for the country. Look at Dominican Republic next door to us. Even from an aerial view, it's a matter of night and day, they are number one in tourism in that region; what number are we? If we do not stand for something, we will fall for anything and we will never prosper, we will always go back to point zero instead of moving forward. Leaders, we must respect ourselves and lead by example. The law is one and for all; you violate it you pay the price regardless of your status. We must bring security, law and order in this beautiful country so it can regain its name of "PEARL OF THE CARIBBEAN'S" We must first respect and take pride in our country so that others can respect it and have a genuine interest in investing in it. Let's learn from other countries that have been in situation similar to ours and see how they have pulled together and moved forward. If the country as a whole thinks big, we will achieve big thing; otherwise, we will still remain in the same situation. Certain laws of nature we must follow; IF NOTHING CHANGES... NOTHING CHANGES. We must behave differently if we expect different results. We have a vast amount of competent Haitians in Haiti as well as in the diaspora who adore Haiti, this is the opportunity that we have all been waiting for to unite ourselves and make a change in our beloved country. Now that we have the entire world willing to assist us in the rebuilding of Haiti, let's quit looking for our personal gain only, but let's one by one contribute and start changing our country one day at a time so we can help the international community to start calling us the most beautiful country in the western hemisphere instead of the poorest one! Re: Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Yearby Atchy on 3/5woww if i keep my mouth shut that's mean am not 100% haitian and i know for sure that am 100% haitian from the top to the bottom. Well, well, well elecetion right now in Haiti. Oh my God who is encharge to decide for Haiti? Anyway who ever in charge to decide to our land Haiti needs to do something or give up, because i can't believe that for a country like haiti that has so much intelligent people young girls and boys sacrifices their lives in the darkness to go to school and study and that time no one can comes out with a good idea. Tell me, yes i wanna go to vote, who can i vote for? come on after this devastation more than 150.000 people died in 1 minut, our capital destroyed like a desert, peopple died like nothing crying out for help all day, all night until now they are styl suffering with many kinds of issues and you and I sit down talking about election. Am very sick and tired with those ideas. How many companies that we have in haiti now try to rebuilt road, communication, power, pure water ect.... anyway remember that haiti is not belong to your family, nan bon kreyol la li pa yon salon lakay ou, men yon peyi kote gen jenerasyon an jenerasyon kap pase ladan l ou met fe sa ou vle terre haiti ap toujou rete la kraze, brize, brote volo se pou yon ti tan au moin nou ta panse pou jenerasyon futur an kap vini an. Nap di byen fo NOU PA BEZWEN ELEKSYON KONNYA NOU BEZWEN TRAVAY AK RECONSTRUCTION DURAB POU YON BELLE GENERATION DEMAIN. An sispann lave je nou ak dlo lakay moun an nou lave ak dlo rivye pa nou yo pou nou ka we pi kle. mesi (Reply)

Re: Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Yearby Miggy on 3/5Yes! We are a country with a constitution. Life must go on. the next President may be the one who is finally will do something great for the country at last. We must strengthen ourselves and do not loose hope in the midst of crisis. We are haitians and have been going forward with our lives for hundreds of years. Please do not forget that. (Reply)

WHAT CONSTITUTION ARE TALKING ABOUT (Reply)
Re: Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Yearby miggy, replying to marie on 07-Mar-10 05:06 AMThanks Marie, See, a lot of people still do not get it. Whether God forbid 75% of Haitians were gone and 25% was left through that Earthquake. The 25% has to move forward for the sake of their future and those who are incapacitated. The Haitians that are handicapped will continue to get care and support. This should not I say "SHOULD NOT" be a reason to delay the most fundamentally important thing to a country which is the ELECTION to clean house. People ask yourselves this question. Do you want to give these officials who has not and are not doing anything for the country one ADDITIONAL DAY of power where we are at our worst state in history. Common now. This should make sense already. Thank you. (Reply)
Re: Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Yearby janjan, replying to Miggy on 05-Mar-10 12:08 PMI agree. Holding these elections will be the first test as to whether Haiti can move forward or not. Letting Preval and his gang stay beyond their constitutional time limit will signal that things will remain the same. (Reply)
