Haiti Elections - What if the Haitian Diaspora could Vote?

Imagine all the Haitians in the Diaspora living legally and illegally outside Haiti... What if all of them had their Voter Registration Card and could actually vote in the Haiti elections? What impact would that have in the outcome of the future elections in Haiti?

Last month, 29 May 2014, Haiti prime Minister Laurent Lamothe met with a delegation from the Diaspora to discuss the topic of "Voting in the Diaspora," a historical meeting aiming to truly integrate the Haitian diaspora in the affairs of Haiti, says François Guillaume II, to the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE)

Prime Minister Lamothe said:

"I see no difference between a Haitian living in Haiti and another living in a foreign land. Moreover, if the Haitian diaspora is actively involved in the local economy, I do not understand why the diaspora cannot enjoy a real integration in the country's sustainable development."

This complaint has existed for a very long time... Haitians living abroad (the diaspora) always feel like an outsider in Haitian politics although the money transfers (remittances) to Haiti represents a really big help for the Haitian economy.

So the QUESTION is... What if the Haitian Diaspora could vote?

How do you think this would affect the outcome of the elections in Haiti?

I wish one day, we too in the diaspora, we participate in the election in our country.

There in haiti, they enjoy our transferts but not our political contribution to the developpement of our country.

I doubt it to 90 percent for a good citizen of the diaspora to involve in a fight in the haitian parliament...
