It's Unfortunate that President Trump wants to end TPS, New York State Senator says

New York State Senator David Carlucci is saddened by the fact that his President Donald Trump wants to end TPS in July 2018 for thousands of Haitians who are currently contributing to the New York economy.

In the presence of Haitian president Jovenel Moise whom he honored in Rockland County New York, Senator Carlucci had this to say about TPS and President Trump:

"Right now, unfortunately, we hear a lot of talk coming out of Washington that's really anti-immigration, anti temporary protected status."

"We hear that President Trump is now saying that he wants to end temporary protected status on July 22nd. That means about 60,000 Haitians that are working paying taxes contributing to our economy will have to be sent back to Haiti or be deported from our country right here in New York state."

"We have over 5000 Haitians here under temporary protected status. Many of them living right here in our community, contributing to our economy contributing to our society and in New York state."

"In the United States, what's made us such a powerful country, such a great country is that we've always valued the idea and the practice that we might come from different cultures, we might celebrate different religions but we know that there's far more that unites us then divides us."

Rockland County New York has a close-knit Haitian community. I myself, writing this article, am a product of Rockland County New York. I went to school in Ramapo High School and my alma matter is Rockland Community College. It will be sad to see this community broken apart come July 2019 when TPS is no more.

What do you think about that?

The Haitian immigrants, like all West Indians immigrants, are self-reliant and value delayed gratification and educational enhancement.

Governmental hand out programs are shunned in this community, unlike in non-Cuban Hispanic immigrant groups, where they are viewed as being an entitlement.
