Read this English translation of Press Release #53 from the CEP:

September 2, 2015 - The Provisional Electoral Council informs the general public, political parties, political groups and candidates in particular that the named Jean Chevalier Sanon was removed from the list of approved candidates to participate in the presidential elections of 25 October and 27 December 2015 for misrepresentation on nationality, contrary to section 135 of the Constitution, paragraph (1), 36 of the Electoral Decree, paragraph (a).

The Council in its task of ensuring strict compliance with provisions of the Electoral Decree of March 2, 2015, was able to verify that the named Jean Chevalier Sanon, holds a Canadian passport, number JK702380. Therefore, he is excluded from the electoral race.

Consequently, his case will be referred to a competent criminal courts for such legal purposes.

The Provisional Electoral Council reiterates its determination to do everything possible to hold fair elections, inclusive and democratic.
