Haiti Income TAX: President Jovenel increases minimum income tax bracket from 60,000 to 120,000 gourdes

Haitian president Jovenel Moise and his government made the decision to increase the minimum income tax bracket from 60,000 to 120,000 gourdes. Now poor Haitian factory workers are safe from paying Income Tax (impôt sur le revenu).

This happened following street protests in Ouanaminthe where workers at industrial park CODEVI manifested their refusal to pay taxes on the 5000 gourdes monthly salary which placed them over the tax bracket

Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste reports, President Jovenel moise will convene an extraordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies in order to amend article 149 of the Decree of 29 September 2005 on income tax.

Rénald Lubérice, secretary-general of the Council of Ministers, told the Nouvelliste Thursday that the bill will be sent to the Senate this Friday to be voted before calling on the the deputes to follow suit.

Depending on the rate of exchange to the US dollar which was around 10 to 1 usd when I was there a few months ago these workers are making about $100 usd a month.

And you wonder why US industry wants to have factories in developing countries.

They continue to make billions on the backs of the Haitian population so that we can purchase cheap goods while people go hungry.
