Haiti Waste Collection: SMCRS is now SNGRS, the old Directrice Generale fired without notice

Haiti's Metropolitan Waste Collection Service (SMCRS) has a new name, it is now known as the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS).

This change was already underway after a new law was voted by Haitain parliament back in February 2017 to make waste collection a national matter instead of just metropolitan Port-au-Prince and the surrounding areas.

On Tuesday September 24 2018, Anel Bruno was installed as the new Directeur General of SNGRS and the old directrice general of SMCRS, Magalie Habitant was fired without notice, according to a tweet from Radio SCOOP FM journalist Garry Pierre Paul Charles.

By law, the new SNGRS will be administered by a seven-member board and a directeur general, and the service will be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment.

SNGRS will work with other sectors like the ministry of Public Works (MTPTC) and representatives of the town halls (La Marie) to form the board of directors.
