Haiti Trying to Revive the Military as MINUSTAH Prepares to leave

Haitian people are talking.. Should the Haitian military (l'Armée d'Haiti) return to replace MINUSTAH peacekeeping soldiers who are getting to leave the country for good or should Haiti stick with only the national police force to provide security?

The Haitian Armed Forces

Haiti needs soldiers to guard its borders, patrol Haiti's airspace and oceans but Haiti is a long way from having a military. These are not things for a police force to handle, are they?

So far, there is a small group of Haitian military engineer soldiers (Corps du Genie Militaire) trained in Ecuador after ex-president Michel Martelly promised to return with the military and suddenly decided to pull back from his campaign promise.

Many Haitian leaders feel that the country need a fully functional National defense system once the UN Peacekeepers leave the country.

What do you think?
