"In a democracy the citizens must listen to their leaders and the leaders must also listen to the citizens," the Prime Minister said.

"The same Constitution that guarantees the right to protest also guarantees everybody else the right to live in peace. No one can force others to live in fear by what they say and what they do. This is what allows businesses to function. This is allowed the people to have jobs in the country, tourist to visit the country, planters to sell what they produce. Social peace is good for everyone."

"Everyone has the right to protest but it must be done in the respect for one another," PM Henry Ceant said.

"The Haitian police has received the order to apply what the law provides for everyone who decides to break the law. The Haitian police will not tolerate violence towards Haitian citizens or their properties," Ceant said.
