Haiti Senator Steven Benoit Joins The Martelly Opposition

Haitian senator Steven Benoit, a personal friend of president Michel Martelly, has just made a public announcement that he has joined opposition... Why? Many reasons... Steven Benoit explains...

"Yes, I am in the opposition," Senator Steven Benoit says, "because the country works very poorly. The situation is too serious, I am forced to break my silence"

Senator Benoit is upset over President Martelly's decisions regarding education in Haiti and the Issues of over the selection of two deputes, a job of Haiti's Electoral Council, not the president of Haiti.

According to Steven Benoit, only Direction General Des Impots (DGI) and Administration generale des douanes (AGD) are allowed to collect money; therefore the fact that President Martelly is collecting funds for education on remittances and phone calls to Haiti is is a flagrant violation of the Constitution.

There are other issues as well...

Haiti Libre reports that Senator Steven Benoit is dissatisfied with Martelly's intention to form a Provisional electoral Council for a term of two years while the amended Constitution asks for a CEP permanent, the fact that judges have yet to be named, the request the renewal of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (CIRH) when president Martelly was campaigning against the CIRH...

This is the hottest topic on Haitian Radio today...

Two questions have been raised on radio: First... The fact that Steven Benoit said he would give Martelly 6 months grace period; it hasn't been 6 months. Second... The fact that there is still no government.

What have you heard?

I know what the president did regarding school in Haiti may not be constitutional.

However, it works for the Haitians kids. We can see what he is doing with the money.

The biggest problem these senators and the deputies have they cannot put their hands on the money.

Ti benoit wants to make a name for himself, and is exposing just how intelligent he is. Bravo steve! But fortunately some of us are well aware that intelligence without common sense is simply non-sense.

Briefly, let us think a little bit, and ask ourselves:
1) Where was ti benoit when all the stuff was going on with Preval and the constitution?
