A press release from the Department of State re-translated from French reads:

The United States regrets the decision by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to resume the presidential elections from the first round. This will require more time and more resources to complete the electoral process started in 2015 and will further delay the installation of a constitutionally elected president.

The Haitian people deserve that their voices are heard, not postponed.

The United States regrets that the electoral process has been extended once again, with little chance that the elected president will be installed by February 7, 2017.

As mentioned in the statement issued by the Core Group on 6 June, Haiti has an urgent need to have elected representatives at all levels of government, including at the highest judiciary.

We look forward to the rapid installation of a democratically elected President who can work with the United States and other partners to address the many challenges that Haiti faces.

The United States welcomes the measures that enable the organization of credible elections in Haiti and transparent.
