Haiti Elections Update - Martelly Responds to Senate Request to speak to G6 Senators

Haiti President Michel Martelly has responded to a letter sent to him by the senate for a possible meeting with the Group of 6 Senators in the opposition... In the letter, Martelly did not say whether or not he will meet the opposing senators but did offer to help Senate president Desras fix things up if he receives a clear message that the Senate is dysfunctional...

Here is what Martelly's porte-parole, Lucien Jura, said on Haitian Radio over the weekend in Haitian Creole, Translation below:

TRANSLATION:

Lucien jura said that in President Deras' eyes, the El Rancho accord is only good or the trash can, move on to other things... So he [Desras] proposed an new dialogue.

The senate president's reponsability is to get the senators to vote on the ammended electoral law...

President Martelly told President Desras that intervening in the affairs of the other branches of government is not in his job description; however, if Desras is incapable of doing his job, he would be happy to help.

It is the responsibility of the Senators to apply the El Rancho Accord and vote on the amended electoral law...

There was lots of "du bon Francais" in the letter, Jura said, but that's what it boils down to...

It is characteristic though unfortunate that we as a people never seem to fail to miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

The so called dialogue El Rancho so many are fixated upon had not mustered the necessary will or power for any national action despite the political theater it provoked.

It has clearly failed in it's ill- conceived effort since it did not meet the basic definitions or requirements to be considered a dialogue.
