Did you know? In the United States, former presidents are protected by the secret Service for their lifetime; however, in Haiti it is not the same... Former Haitian Presidents are only protected for 5 years. it wasn't always like that for the USA...

In the United States, the Former Presidents Act, the original act provided for lifetime Secret Service for former presidents.

In 1997, it was reduced to 10 years for presidents taking office after 1997.

In 2012, after the September 11 incident in the U.S., the Former Presidents Act was changed again.... All living former presidents and their spouses are now entitled to receive lifetime Secret Service protection.

In Haiti, It's 5 years protection but president Aristide had government protection way past the 5 years...
